Many British riders have performed well on the Motocross Grand Prix scene and one of those riders is the current voice of motocross, Paul Malin.
Now married to a noted Kiwi woman’s motocross racer from a few years ago, Nikki Scott, Malin has recently been in New Zealand and taking the opportunity to get around and see some of the country and, of course, attending a few motocross events as well.
He was an interested spectator at the annual King of the Mountain Motocross in Taranaki last month and also stood in as guest commentator, relieving for our usual “Turbo Tonsils”, Neil Ritchie, for a couple of races at last weekend’s New Zealand Motocross Grand Prix at Woodville, that event doubling as round one of the New Zealand Motocross Championships.
Malin who won the Motocross of Nations with Team Great Britain in 1994 – teamed then with Kurt Nicoll and Rob Herring – claimed a lot of success in the 500cc class before he moved to the 125cc class in 1995 and straight away he produced solid results.
Today he talks with BikesportNZ.com about his career with the organisers of the MXGP competition in Europe and about his time racing alongside fellow “big names” of the sport such as Jeff Emig, Stefan Everts and Sebastien Tortelli.
