Te Puke’s Kylie Foreman thoroughly enjoyed her experience racing at the 2023 New Zealand Veterans’ Motocross Championships in Central Hawke’s Bay at the weekend.
She reckons she’s feeling the pain this week, but still wants to issue a huge call-out to all the female racers who did not show up to race.
Today she shares with us what happened at the weekend, from a self-confessed amateur female who has no delusions of grandeur.
Read here about what Kylie Foreman (pictured here) had to say about her weekend:
“It was a last-minute decision to completely throw myself in the deep end and compete at the NZ Veteran MX Nationals 2023, held at the awesome Twist MX Argyll (my all-time favourite natural terrain track).
“I had received a little peer pressure from our very talented (and not washed up #95) Stacey Emms, who holds the No.1 spot for our Veteran Women’s 30+ MX Champion two years running.
“The decision was solely based on getting our numbers up and continuing all the years of hard work and dedication that Julie Managh and Ian Conway have put into women’s motocross racing here in New Zealand, MX Ladies NZ (members), Kawi Girls Off-road and Motorcycling New Zealand have put into the sport.
“But we need more Vet ladies!!! – the 30+, 40+, 50+, even 60+ categories – we need more ladies to continue to have our vets and women’s nationals … not just veterans.
“Whether you are a rookie,a novice, a “washed-up” ex moto-mum, a “used to be good”, “I wish I was still as fast as I was when” or “Goodness, I could never compete with those other girls” …. We don’t care what level you ride … we just want you to come and ride with us.
“Another year from now, we need to put the thinking caps on, dust off the boots, check those helmet manufacturers’ dates, stretch those muscles (because mine are screaming at me today!), rally up, double up, two-up, and let’s try and get vets and WOMEN’S nationals back in the race card.
“It’s always a good laugh and so much fun catching up with old faces and meeting new ones along the way. Thanks for all the support.
